We asked Michi Saagiig people: what messages do you think the baskets have today?

All those times when people
search, and they get lost
sometimes. This piece of
our ancestors, may help to
bring them back and know
how strong and proud and
wonderful we are. We always
talk about how our ancestors
stand behind us. When we
have our meetings, we call
them in to guide us and to
help us with those decisions.
And that’s part of what these
pieces, these ancestors here
will bring to us and our
young ones.
And I understand people may
say that we want to keep
them, but they were a gift.
They were gifted, but just to be
able to have them back here is
something we all need to learn
about and feel.

Je pense à toutes ces fois où
les gens se cherchent, jusqu’à se perdre, parfois. Ce morceau de nos Ancêtres peut les aider à revenir à eux-mêmes et à comprendre à quel point nous sommes forts, fiers et merveilleux. Nous disons toujours que nos Ancêtres sont derrière nous. Lorsque nous tenons nos assemblées, nous les appelons pour nous guider et nous aider à prendre les bonnes décisions.
Et c’est une partie de ce que ces pièces, ces Ancêtres ici présents, vont nous apporter à nous et à notre jeunesse.
Et je comprends que certains
voudraient les garder, mais
c’était un cadeau. Ils ont été
donnés, mais le simple fait de
pouvoir les ramener ici pour un temps est une occasion dont nous devons tous tirer parti et que nous devons apprécier.
